Todd Garner was born and raised in Pasadena, California and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach before accepting an artist-in-residence at Edinburgh College of Art in 1989. He has been a practicing artist in Glasgow ever since. He has also taught painting at the University of Strathclyde since 1996.
Trained in classic oil painting, he now works exclusively in acrylics, bringing classic techniques to a modern medium. His subject is a layering of 1930’s glamour over contemporary images with a subtle narrative content. Present work carries a strong theme of ‘waiting,’ anticipating uncertain events or perhaps just for a well-made cocktail.
