Cherylene dyer

Cherylene Dyer is a painter obsessed with the human condition. She paint emotions and impressions ina traditional figurative style; building up complex multiple layers of paint using glazing and scumblingto enhance or hide areas of the canvas. Her paintings can be easily described, a woman singingwearing a swimming cap, a man with his head bandaged surrounded by birds. Beneath thesedescriptions are hidden narratives, stories not told in full, with far more complex and emotionalideas driving the images than the simple descriptions alone. This stratified process reflects herpainting techniques.

She takes social media as one of her inspirations, she is fascinated with people who usecertain apps to change and hide their true appearance, projecting images of themselves so filteredand altered that they have created a completely false narrative about who they are. It’s what theymight be hiding that intrigues her, and it is these implied narratives that run through her work. It’s thehidden parts of the human condition than draws her in, the loneliness, the moments of self-doubt,the striving for something unobtainable. These fascinations are eloquently expressed through her excellent painting technique.
